We were very satisfied with this lens, as point-and-shoot parents wanting quality pictures of our kids, for about 17 months. Suddenly, without any preceding maltreatment, the auto-focus wouldn’t work. In trying to focus manually, I could hear something loose inside the lens and I couldn’t move through the entire zoom range. Finally, a piece looking something like a plumber’s wrench fell out of the lens. Of course, Canon’s warranty is 12 months from purchase. They are asking $95 (plus shipping) to repair it. Might as well buy a new lens. Buyer beware.
