This is a spectacular lens on all levels. The SWD (supersonic wave drive) really makes a noticeable difference when one is photographing moving objects. I did such recently at last weeks Concours d’Elegance of Pebble Beach photographing from the passenger seat of the 3rd place winner of the C-2 division, my twin brother’s ‘41 Thunderbolt. Shutter speed was set at 1/800 sec ASA 400 and the lens and camera does the rest. Also set the focus to a single central square. I did not loose a single picture (out of 260) because of time lapse or out of focus pic. A number of pictures were made of the people who were walking around on the lawn, of dogs, children, other artifacts-such as hood ornaments up close and a Coleoptra resting on the car-and of course of the cars! The speed of the focusing was a tremendous help; using the wide angle setting gave great perspective control and the color correction at all F-stops was spot on. The large zooming range and lower weight made a difference on the hands and shoulders by the end of the day! Overall, my favorite lens now! Pics are on my Facebook page and will be placed on flickr later for all to view.
