fine-camera-lenses Zeiss Ikon Useful Knowledgebase

First off i am using a Canon 5d mark ii camera. The lenses i have besides this new Zeiss include the following; Canon 85mm 1.2 ii, Canon 24-70 2.8L, Canon 35mm 1.4L, Canon 70-200 2.8 is and a few other toss around lenses.

Now onto the Zeiss.

Its perfect.

There are some shots that seem magical. The different levels of the same color and the micro-contrast is stunning. No need for HDr.. this lens does it on its own with no CPF!

I was worried about the manual focus only but the camera beeps and has a light on the viewfinder that lets you know its focused, or you can use live view and zoom right in to check. In fact the manual focus is a joy to use.. is a lil heavy to let you know your working with something nice.

the all metal construction is beautiful… and its all metal.. even the hood! In fact with no internal IS, this metal lens could last a decade or more easy.

In all reality this lens makes me want to sell all my L lenses and convert to zeiss (although i havent heard good things about the zeiss 85mm, but the 100 macro is superb).

If your a landscape photographer this is a must have. I rarely take this lens off now.

cant say enough great things about this lens.. go steal it, buy it or at least rent the dang thing before dropping $1300 on a L lens that doesnt come close.


Help answer the question about Zeiss Ikon
I have a Zeiss Contax II with a serial number starting with X. How much is it worth?
The serial number is X 2502. It's really Zeiss Ikon hard to find information about the cameras with serial numbers beginning with X. I also have a lense filter that has a mitsubishi symbol on it, and can't find any info about it either. If you can answer you would really satisfy my curiousity! :)
