The collar I received (March 2010) was exactly as pictured – knurled white metal knob; similar color to Canon L series telephotos. The black felt inside the collar was not firmly glued on but I could get it to adhere by pressing it. It’s held on by double sided tape and it wouldn’t be hard to replace the tape or the felt, for that matter. It holds my 5D Mark II and 70-200mm f/4 lens in good balance for mounting on a tripod. It takes just a slight losening of the knob to rotate the camera & lens. There’s no marking on the collar that matches it to a perfect horizontal or vertical orientation but a piece of color tape will fix that. The color match with the lens isn’t perfect but its not too far off and after all, it’s not a fashion article, it’s a piece of work gear. Construction quality is adequate, it’s functional and the value is high vs. Canon’s own version.
