It works well for a 30 mm or longer lens (nice and long for plenty of shade). Less then about 30 mm (wide zooms, etc.) you’ll get vignetting. It has a metal mounting ring that’s also inside threaded and long enough to use a center pinch lens cap, etc., after the hood. It works very well with a Circular Polarizer on the lens first then the hood. The hood will rotate the Polarizer, & sense its round, not petal shaped the shade is not changed. Of course, a screw in hood is the only way to still have a hood if you use a step up ring (if you don’t want to buy filters for every size lens). The hood is collapsible but the rubber is kind of thin so it won’t hold its’ shape if you leave it on & shove your camera into a holster bag. The threads on the ring are clean and well machined. It seems well made.
